EDEKA ABAZA from Essen, sponsor and partner of BIHLAFF 2024

We asked Aldin Abaza for a brief interview on the fringes of the Zechenfest in Essen.                                                                                                                                                                                         Aldin is known for his tireless commitment to the development of the Bosnian community in many areas of society, and you are also involved in many voluntary organisations.

  • Aldin, what does the BIHLAFF mean to you?

It is a wonderful opportunity to offer filmmakers from Bosnia and Herzegovina, but also from the entire Western Balkans, a platform to present their works, their films.

  • When did you hear about us?

Last year, I visited the festival at Filmforum Bottrop. Unfortunately, I was only there for one evening, but I was impressed by the quality of the films, as well as the whole ‘trappings’, the talks, the interviews and           the togetherness.

  • What do you think an event like this can achieve?

Through such a festival, Bosnia, but also the neighbouring countries, can shed the stereotype of a ‘troubled and unstable’ region, to put it mildly. The talents and abilities of our compatriots go much further than          what is known in Europe.

  • What are your hopes for this year's festival?

I hope that the festival will continue on its current path and develop further. It offers space for dialogue, encounters and understanding. I am also convinced that together we will raise the profile of the festival             and increase the recognition of the volunteer organisers.
